W&M Choir and Botetourt Chamber Singers International Tour 2011

The Choir of the College of William and Mary under the direction of Professor James Armstrong and the William and Mary Botetourt Chamber Singers conducted by Professor Jamie Bartlett went on their triennial International Tour in May of 2011, this time to Italy, Greece and Turkey. While in Italy, they sang in Rome, Naples, Ravello, Lecce and Bari. In Greece, they sang in Pyrgos and Athens. Highlights of our busy sightseeing schedule included the catacombs in Rome, the ruins of Pompeii, the majestic Parthenon (newly restored), a cruise of the Greek islands, Corinth, the ancient theatre of Epidaurus, Olympia, Delphi, and Ephesus. We invite you through this six-minute video to experience with us a sampling of the joys of making music together and sharing it with others, learning about other cultures, visiting classical antiquities, making new friends, deepening close friendships that will last a lifetime and just having fun--all of this in some of the most beautiful places in the world. We are deeply grateful to all who provided support for this tour: chief among these are the generous alumni and alumnae who established the Old Guarde Fund that provides assistance for those in financial need, also the Office of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, the Provost and the President as well as all the individual donors who suggested by their generous gifts that this was an undertaking of importance not only for the students but also for the College of William and Mary. The choirs are especially grateful to Thomas Marshall, keyboardist and member of the Music Department, as well as College photographer Stephen Salpukas both of whom accompanied us on tour. This video is Mr. Salpukas' handiwork, a small sampling of the hundreds of beautiful, digital images he took overseas.
